
Accra, Ghana//-Faith in Ghana Alliance, a faith-based CSO and St. Theresa catholic Church have appealed for peace, justice and national cohesion at the end of December 7 elections.
At a Forum on Justice, Peace, Unity and National Cohesion for Elections 2024 organised on Wednesday under the auspices of the Faith in Ghana Alliance and the St. Theresa Catholic Church, the Okaikoi South Imam, Ishmael Okotah Badoo representing the National Chief Imam, expressed the need for Politicians to embrace peace and eschew violence in this elections.
He said it is not worth it for a single life to be lost in the December 7 elections, stressing the need for Politicians to value peace in the interest of the country.
“This election should be peaceful. We don’t want to see the loss of lives”, the Chief Imam stressed.
He underscored the need for Politicians to safeguard the democratic integrity of Ghana and not engage in acts that may jeopardise the peace we are currently enjoying.
On his part, the Parish Priest of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Rev. Father Francis Destiny Amenuvor, emphasised that Politicians are all children of God and, hence, must act in a manner that reflects the character of God.
He called for absolute tolerance by Politicians and their supporters in the elections and appealed to them to prioritise peace and justice.
“We must know that we are all children of God. Let us all cry out for justice and peace”, Rev. Father Amenuvor said. He later entreated Ghanaians to seek Knowledge, adding that Knowledge makes us tolerant and helps us to build justice amongst ourselves.
Speaking on the topic “Advancing Justice, Peace, Unity and National Cohesion for Election 2024”, a Lecturer at Regent University, Mr. J. T. Tetteh-Quaynor, explained that peace could not be attained on rhetoric but must be worked for and achieved at all costs.
He called on Politicians to be wary of the aforementioned, stressing that justice, unity and peace can be attained when it is fought from all angles by stakeholders.
Present at the forum was the Kaneshie Police Commander ASP Famous Kudah, who also expressed the Police readiness to maintain peace and order before, during and after the elections.
