Volta Region: 15 People Arrested Amidst Sporadic Shootings at Ho Central Mosque

Ghana Police Service

At least fifteen (15) people have been arrested by the police following a sporadic shooting incident at the Ho Central Mosque on Friday morning.

At about 9:30 am this morning, some masked men reportedly stormed the mosque and attempted to drive away some people who had gathered around the mosque ahead of Jummah prayers.

The incident was reported to have escalated amidst sporadic shootings.

At least, seven (7) people are believed to have sustained gunshot injuries.

Though the cause of the disturbances remains unclear, locals are linking it to the protracted dispute that has plagued the Zongo community over who is the legitimate Volta Regional Chief Imam.

3news can confirm that more than twenty (20) combined police-military officers were seen on the grounds attempting to restore calm as residents prepare for the Jummah prayers regardless.
