Lomé, Togo, October 3, 2019- Seventeen community groups and associations of Togo received on Tuesday, 1 October 2019 in Lome, financing of around 820,000 CFA to more than 2.5 million FCFA from Embassy of the United States in Togo within the framework of the implementation of the self-help program called “self-Help”.

The agreements signing ceremony took place at the US Embassy was chaired by Eric Stromayer, Ambassador of the United States of America in Togo. For these new grants, the Embassy of the United States was interested in three areas: health, agriculture and education.

According to Eric Stromayer through this support, the Government of the United States wants to encourage local authorities in Togo to “improve their welfare socioeconomic and health through projects they themselves implemented “. “Today, under the special program of self-help, we fund 17 new projects with a total value of $ 64,000, or 35.2 million CFA francs, said the diplomat.

This facility will thus enable these organizations to the base, including start income-generating projects, agricultural processing, supply of equipment for schools, or assistance to disabled people initiatives, according to their respective projects.

The 17 recipients of funding projects were selected following a rigorous call for applications. “Each of you should be proud that its project has been selected,” welcomed the US diplomat, before continuing, “Your hard work has helped you to complete the application process, and hard work transform these subsidies into meaningful programs that will continue to have a positive impact on your community in the coming years. ”

In doing so, he starts to beneficiary communities: “You were chosen not as beneficiaries but as partners. We do not do this for you but with you. ” “Congratulations on the efforts to date, and look forward already to visit your projects and help you celebrate your future success,” he concluded.

Recall that “Self-Help is a community assistance program, launched in 1964, which aims to finance development of micro-from local communities. The main selection criterion is self-help. Indeed, beneficiaries can no longer use the program again.

Particular emphasis is placed on projects with the potential to generate income, create jobs and produce marketable skills (sewing, livestock …). The maximum amount awarded for each project is $ 5,000.
