Togo: Free Electricity and Water for All Social Groups for 3 Months

Lome, Togo, April 7, 2020-The President of Togo, Faure Gnassingbe Essozimna announced a series of social measures to help vulnerable in times of health crisis related coronavirus (COVID-19).

Among these measures, free for a period of three months of the social block for the payment of electricity bills. The minister of mines and energy, Dèdèriwè Ably Bidamon through a statement, just act the decision of the Head of State in his speech.

“The social portion of the electricity bill, corresponding to a consumption of 0 to 40 kwh, is made free for postpaid customers as prepaid subscribing to a subscription 2 son, 10 A and maximum use of which is exclusively domestic” the statement of the Minister, made public Monday, April 6, 2020.

In social terms, this corresponds to an exemption from payment of 2,520 FCFA per month for each household whose monthly consumption does not exceed 40 kWh. The measure, which takes effect retroactively from April 1, will remain in force for three months over the entire national territory.

Note that in harmony with the social, Antoine Lekpa GBEGBENI, minister in charge of water, also confirmed a few days earlier, the free water for the most vulnerable from now and this for three months . A saving of 1900 FCFA for those whose monthly water consumption goes from 0 to 10 m3.
