A marathon meeting between representatives of striking public sector workers and Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu has been stalled.
The meeting was part of effort at addressing the confusion which rocked the Tier Two Pension Scheme resulting into indefinite strike by the public sector workers.
The workers kicked against government’s decision to manage their tier two pension scheme.
Mr Iddrisu who met with the angry workers today’s afternoon in a move to find a lasting solution to the impasse could not achieve any result.
According to the striking workers, they could not negotiate with government when a legal suit hangs around their necks. They rather appealed to their lawyers look at the content of government’s offer.
It was not immediately known what exactly the government had on offer for the workers, however the Deputy Communication Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu said that the writ filed at the court should not be a stumbling block to the negotiations with the workers.
“The suit is simply to seek interpretation to certain matters which cannot be harmful to the position of other parties.
“Ultimately the most effective way of addressing any labour impasse is to engaging in continuous dialogue,” he said adding they are willing to engage and negotiate with labour.
Reynolds Tinkorang, the leader of the public sector workers stated that it appeared government was fighting them on three fronts- negotiations, labour commission and the court.
