
August 24, 2019//-Superintendent Peter Lanchene Tuubo, an ex-Executive Secretary to former Inspector-General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu has humiliated the incumbent MP for Wa West Joseph Yileh Chireh in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries.
Supt. Tuubo who resigned from the police service to contest the race polled 755 as against 317 gathered by old guard Chireh to represent the NDC in the 2020 parliamentary race for Wa West.
Mr Chireh has been in active politics since the era of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) headed by Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings.
Tuubo’s bravado in resigning from a secure career and jumping into the unknown plane of political contests has surprised many.
He resigned on May 1, 2019 to contest the race.
Social media was abuzz with the news and accompanied by negative footnotes about police officers engaged in partisan politics and its negative impact on efficient enforcement of the law.
Peter Tuubo is noted for speaking out against unprofessional conduct within the law enforcement system in the country.
OTHER SURPRISES
Popular actor John Dumelo has won the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress.
According to provisional results, the actor-cum-businessman won the ticket with 758 votes while his competitor Suzy Efua Adoboe polled 99 votes.

In Ningo Prampram, Sam George has retained the ticket with 407 votes as against his contender’s 400 votes.
In the Tamale South constituency, incumbent Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini has won with 446 votes whiles his challenger polled 164 votes.
In the Adenta constituency, former Gender minister Nana Oye Lithur has lost with 559 votes while her challenger Mohammed Ramadan garnered 730 votes.
Also in the Kumbungu constituency, incumbent Ras Mubarak has lost the ticket with 273 votes as against his opponent’s 401 votes.
In the Sagnarigu constituency, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini gathered 405 votes while his challenger had 360 votes.
Kofi Adams unseats incumbent Buem MP
A former National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Adams has defeated the incumbent MP of Buem in the Oti region to represent the party in the 2020 parliamentary elections.

Mr. Adams secured 388 votes to unseat Daniel Kosi Ashaiman who polled 280 votes. The others Ibrahim Adams Muniru and Daniel Adeapena polled 95 and nine votes respectively.
“As MP, I will work to unite the people of Buem in order to place them in the position for accelerated development and growth since unity is paramount to achieving these targets,” Mr. Adams said ahead of the internal polls.
In other results, the incumbent lawmaker for Ayawaso North, Mr Yusuf Issah Jahjah won to represent the NDC in the 2020 Parliamentary election in the constituency.
He obtained 557 votes out of the 814 votes cast. He beat former MP for the area, Dr Mustapha Ahmed, who managed 254 votes.
Dr. Zanetor Rawlings wins
The NDC MP for Klottey Korle, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, will be leading the party once again in the constituency in the 2020 parliamentary elections. She won the primaries on Saturday with a total of 671 votes out of the 1,270 ballots cast.

Her contenders Mr. Leeford Quarshie and Muhammad Armah had 336 and 260 votes respectively. The daughter of former president JJ Rawlings expressed gratitude to the delegates for the confidence reposed in her yet again. “I had a huge number and that shows I didn’t win by chance,” Dr. Rawlings said after being declared winner of the primaries. She has called for unity within the party ahead of the 2020 elections.
Popular fisherman in Sekondi Charles Hagan springs surprise
Popular fisherman in Sekondi Charles Hagan popularly referred known as Panya has emerged as the parliamentary candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress in the Sekondi Constituency.

Panya was contesting with Charlotte Otuah Odoom, former Mayor for the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, and a former deputy Western Regional Minister and two times parliamentary candidate, Betty Bosomtwe Sam.
The popular Chief Fishermen pulled 244 votes to beat his opponents in a keenly contested primaries held at the Wesley Methodist School in Sekondi.
Madam Betty Bosomtwe Sam pulled 175 while Charlotte Otuah Odoom managed 163 votes
It will be recalled that there were attempts to disqualify Panya as it was allegedly reported that he struggled with English language during his vetting, an allegations which has been discounted by him and his team.
Former MP for Afram Plains South makes a strong comeback
A former MP for Afram Plains South, Joseph Appiah Boateng, has won back the Parliamentary candidate slot of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Boateng, who was going for his second term had his candidature withdrawn a few months to the 2016 election by the National Executives of the party over allegations of criminality.

Having been cleared of any wrongdoing Boateng has returned to secure the slot. He polled 352 votes while his close contenders Mark Oliver Kevor and incumbent Member of Parliament Eric Osei Owusu polled 227 and 260 votes respectively.
The Affram Plains South election was one of the hottest as far as the NDC Parliamentary Primaries was concerned .
The election was initially being contested by five candidates but two – Emmanuel Mbeebi and Bismark Owusu Amponsah – withdrew a day before the polls.
