The workshop, held from December 15-17, 2024, at the Pempamsie Hotel in Cape Coast, brought together 45 key stakeholders to advance gender diversity initiatives.

The Taskforce, established on October 17, 2024, by the Office of the Head of Civil Service(OHCS) in collaboration with Emerging Public Leaders of Ghana, focuses on promoting gender equity and addressing structural barriers to women’s advancement in leadership roles.

“This orientation is critical to equipping our Taskforce members with the knowledge, strategies, and collaborative frameworks needed to drive meaningful change in regards to gender inclusion and diversity in leadership, especially for women,” Dr Efua Kwambaah Turkson, Gender and Research Manager at Emerging Public Leaders Ghana said.

“We are committed to creating an environment where all talented individuals can thrive in leadership positions, regardless of gender.” Key highlights of the workshop included a comprehensive overview of the NGDT’s mandate and objectives and an exploration of gender inclusion policy frameworks.

There were interactive sessions on advocacy and policy reform. Participants developed strategies to ensure gender mainstreaming in programming and had team-building exercises to strengthen collaborative efforts.

The workshop featured sessions led by experts and resource persons from OHCS, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and Emerging Public Leaders of Ghana. Ms Elizabeth Obeng-Yeboah, the Director of Recruitment, Training and Development Directorate at the Office of the Head of Civil Service, noted that this orientation workshop as an activity of the National Gender Diversity Workshop would ensure that the public sector of Ghana is transformed through diverse representations and inclusivity.

“Our goal is to transform Ghana’s public sector by ensuring diverse representation and creating pathways for inclusive leadership”. Ms. Elizabeth Obeng-Yeboah noted.

Participants developed concrete action plans targeting key milestones for advancing gender diversity in 2025, focusing on policy influence, structural reforms, and creating supportive environments for underrepresented groups in leadership.
