
Accra, Ghana, December 22, 2019//-MTN Mobile Money Limited has presented awards to its exceptional mobile financial services’ agents at the third edition of Mobile Money Agents Awards Night which coincided with its 10th anniversary.
The awards night was held to celebrate Mobile Money (MoMo) agents in the South East Sales Region comprising Eastern, Volta, and Greater Accra regions who have demonstrated high levels of professionalism in executing their duties in providing Mobile Money services to their customers in the 2019.
50 agents received awards in the night, while 350 others will receive theirs at separate locations.
Similar awards were held in Kumasi for the Northern Ghana Region which comprises Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions. While the final awards will be held in Takoradi for the South West Sales Region covering Central and Western regions.
Notable E-Solutions Limited emerged the Overall Best Mobile Money Agent of the Year 2019. The company won a brand new 2019 Hyndai Santa Fe, certificate of honour and other prizes.
Other winners took home prizes ranging from television sets, mobile money agent kiosks, motorbikes to tickets to Dubai.
Criteria for the selection
Criteria for the selection of winners included scanning for agents who have not indulged in fraudulent activities, agents who exhibit and provide customers with a good experience among others.
Speaking at the awards night, the General Manager of MTN Mobile Money Limited, Eli Hini, said, the awards ceremony is in recognition of the role Mobile Money agents play to ensure good customer experience.
We acknowledge the roles our Mobile Money agents have played to ensure our customers have a good experience with Mobile Money Services, he added.
We celebrate our Agents today for showing leadership and integrity in their day to day activities and urge them on into continuing to be better ambassadors of MTN as their actions have an impact on the image of the MTN brand, according to him.
Fighting fraud
To safeguard mobile financial services usage, MTN Ghana has partnered with entities such as the Police and the Central Bank in order to put measures in place for the safe use of Mobile Money services.
Mr Hini assured that the company was working around the clock to defeat the fraudsters in the mobile money ecosystem.
To this end, he said: “As part of our 10th anniversary, we are building a forensic lab for the Ghana Police Service to help fight fraud” in the digital financial services space.
Mr Hini was happy to say that the being equipment for the lab were being processed at the Tema port for delivery.
Insurance for agents
Also, the company is working to provide insurance cover(s) for all the mobile money agents hopefully next year.
However, he advised them to observe basic safety rules to safeguard their mobile agent properties from being attacked by armed robbers and other hoodlums.
MTN Mobile Money is the largest Mobile Money service provider in the country with over 14 million active users on its Mobile Money platform and over 5,000 active agents across the country.
Today, there are about six major categories of financial transactions on the MTN MoMo platform under which there are other sub – services.
On MoMo today, customers are not just sending and receiving money or paying bills, MoMo is now used for Saving, Investing,Payments, Shopping, Insurance and Loan acquisition.
The company has also partnered with several organizations to rollout key social empowerment projects over the decade including helping digitize the Agriculture Value Chain through mAgric, POS in partnership with several banks and scaling up female participation within the MoMo merchant space.
Instructively, MTN Mobile Money which is a subsidiary of MTN Ghana continues to spearhead innovations and initiatives that facilitate the growth of the mobile financial services sector which provides customers with fast, simple, convenient, secure and affordable way of transferring money, making payments and doing other transactions using just a mobile phone.
