MTN Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in which a total amount of GH¢300,000.00 has been released by the telecommunication giant to support innovation, research and teaching at the school.
The acting Chief Executive officer of MTN Ghana, Mrs. Cynthia Lumor, explained at the presentation ceremony in Kumasi that education was a focus for MTN, as it provides unlimited opportunity, hence the MoU.
According to her, MTN partnership with well-known institutions in science and Technology need funding to do research and training and sharing the vision to encourage more research and communication, which she noted demands enthusiastic graduates .
She stated KNUST will received an amount of GH¢60,000.00 annually from MTN for five years to facilitate a number of intentions for students to get practical experience by organizing a two days carrier fair on yearly basis to build their capacity to enable them have a feel of some of the things they do.
Mrs. Lumor disclosed that the MoU was a signal to their commitment and focus to work more closely with the institution.
Professor Williams Ellis Otoo, Vice Chancellor of KNUST, also expressed his profound gratitude to MTN Ghana for responding to contribute in the academic work of the institution in support of the research and teaching in the area of telecom .
He noted that the government alone cannot provides all the needs of institutions like KNUST and called on other corporate bodies to also help.
The Vice Chancellor indicated that KNUST has also contributed a lot to MTN in a diverse wayshence the need for MTN to also look and give back to the institution as a corporate responsibility.
