
Accra, Ghana- Staff of MTN Ghana Foundation today distributed hampers to over 500 babies born on Christmas and Boxing Day across the country.
The hampers, each comprising blankets, diapers, towels, shawls, bibs, toiletries, clothes and other baby essentials were distributed to mothers in over 10 hospitals in the 16 regions of Ghana. Mothers with multiple births were given additional hampers for each baby.
Mrs Jemima Kotei Walsh, the Chief Customer Relations Officer of MTN Ghana who led a team of MTN Ghana to present 100 hampers to new mothers at the Pentecost Hospital, Madina New Road and Madina Old Road polyclinics, and University of Ghana Hospital, all in Accra, said similar donations were done nationwide.
“As we speak, MTN Ghana through its employee volunteers is distributing baby hampers in all 16 regions of Ghana. This year, we are distributing a total of 500 hampers at a cost of GHC 150,000 across the country”, she told journalists after distributing the hampers to the newborn mothers.
“MTN is also sharing in the joy of the season and we are here on Boxing Day to show love to mothers of babies born on Christmas Day”.
Mrs Kotei Walsh, added: “Today we are in all 16 regions distributing hampers. We see the occasion as a season of giving and also of love and in the midst of Covid-19, MTN counts it very important to still reach out to our dear mothers and lovely babies born on Christmas Day to show them the MTN kind of love, she emphasized.
Mrs Kotei Walsh used the occasion to congratulate the newborn mothers and also wish customers and stakeholders of MTN Ghana a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

One of the mothers who delivered on 25th December said, “This is my best Christmas. I will surely tell my baby when he grows up that MTN brought him lovely gifts when he was born”.
While thanking MTN Ghana for the support extended to the babies and their mothers, the Head of Nursing and Midwifery at the Pentecost Hospital, Madam Ninette Dankwah Agyare, said 16 babies were delivered at the hospital on Christmas, whereas 10 babies were delivered on Boxing Day.
“This is the first time that our hospital has recorded such a high number of deliveries”, she stated.
Similarly, at the Madina New Road and Madina Old Road polyclinics, three hampers were presented by the MTN Ghana staff to the new mothers at the time of their visit. A number of the new mothers had been discharged for fear of contracting the covid-19. Also, at the University of Ghana Hospital, Legon, six hampers were presented to the new mums.
The Head of Administration of the Madina Polyclinic New Road, Mrs Bridget Amy Zaukuu and Midwifery Officer of the polyclinic, Mrs Esther Adelaide Naa Okaikor Ayibontey Aryeh, also thanked the management and staff of MTN Ghana for supporting the new babies and their mothers.
They used the opportunity to appeal to the MTN Ghana Foundation to build a new maternity ward for the hospital to enable the hospital to accommodate more patients.

Since 2011, the MTN Ghana Foundation has donated over 2,000 hampers including this year’s to babies born on Christmas Day. The donation is one of the many ways the MTN Ghana Foundation has catered for the health needs of several individuals and medical institutions across Ghana. The project started with a few regions however by 2020 all the then 10 regions have been included.
The donation is also one of the many ways the Foundation has helped to brighten the lives of members of the Ghanaian community. The presentation of the hampers was given to celebrate the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ.
Since its inception in 2007, the MTN Ghana Foundation has improved access to healthcare by building hospital blocks and CHPS Compounds and donated medical equipment to various health centres.
Some health projects the MTN Ghana Foundation has undertaken include the construction of a Neonatal Care Centre for Tamale Teaching Hospital, refurbishment of the 2nd floor maternity block of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, construction of maternity blocks for Ejisu Government Hospital and the Tema General Hospital; and the provision of an Emergency Center for Atua Government Hospital.
In all, the Foundation has invested in over 140 projects across the country.
