
Accra, Ghana//-MTN Ghana has announced that it would undertake two historic projects at the Keta Municipal Hospital and Mamfe Girls School in the Volta and Eastern regions respectively as part of its 25th anniversary.
The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh announced this at the company’s 25th anniversary celebration stakeholder dinner held in Accra.
He said: “As part of our 25th anniversary, I am pleased to announce that the MTN Ghana Foundation Board has approved a project to build a modern 60-bed high-tech maternity and neo natal center for the Keta Municipal Hospital at a cost of 9 million GHC. This will be the first of its kind in the entire Volta Region”.
“In addition, and in line with our ambition to develop ICT skills in our Ghanaian youth with a particular focus on the girl-child, the MTN Ghana Foundation has also approved to invest 1.2 million GHC in building a STEM Robotics Lab for the Mamfe Girls School and surrounding communities for their sterling performance in the national and international Robotics competition”.
Over $1 billion for infrastructure
Furthermore, Mr Adadevoh also disclosed that the company projected to invest over $1 billion in infrastructure and information systems in the next five years, starting this year, to support the vision of a digital Ghana.
“We recognize that our contributions towards infrastructure alone are not enough and also need to support broader ecosystem acceleration. As such, we have pledged our support for Government’s ICT developmental efforts through the provision of an ICT Hub and developing a plan in partnership with Government for establishing West Africa’s first Innovation City here in Ghana”.
These initiatives according to him would help government expand ICT skills literacy to thousands of young and unemployed Ghanaians, promote SME digital innovation and new business idea incubation, invite major global technology players into Ghana beyond Twitter and many other new and emerging opportunities.
In its 25 years in Ghana, “we have inspired and supported many young Ghanaians through various initiatives, and we are not resting on our laurels”, Mr Adadevoh assured.

In a speech read for the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia by the Senior Advisor to the President, Yaw Osafo Marfo commended MTN Ghana for its transformational impact on all sectors of the Ghanaian economy.
He said: “Being here for your 25th anniversary only goes to confirm the government’s appreciation of your work over the years and the need for us to continue to partner and collaborate to build the Ghana we want”.
“I commend all stakeholders who have worked diligently and tirelessly over the years in diverse ways to make MTN a success”, Dr Bawumia added.
Honours
Past CEOs of MTN Ghana including Ebenezer Asante, Michael Ikpoki and other key stakeholders of the company were honoured for their yeoman roles.
