Some 70 basic school children at Kyebi Amanfrom in the Eastern Region have benefitted from cybersecurity training and conscientization as part pf efforts to assist young Ghanaians to navigate the digital landscape with confidence and protect themselves from potential cyber security threats.

The five-hour event also saw Cyber Security experts and trainers take the children through cybersecurity best practices, safe online behaviours, threat detection, and incident responses.

The initiative was under the auspices of Cyber1defense Communication, an Accra-based multi-dimensional ICT training firm, as part of a mission to bring free cybersecurity training and cyber safety awareness programs to remote villages in Ghana.

The programme was held as part of Ghana’s activities to mark the global commemoration of Cyber Awareness Month.

Cyber Security Awareness Month was created in 2004 and celebrated every October as a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure users of computer-based space have the resources they need to stay safer and more secure online.

The pupils were taken through various aspects of cyber operations, the uses and benefits of the internet as well as dangers associated with it.

The highly enthusiastic children were full of praise for the organizers.

Speaking to the media after the event, DK Cyber, a highly regarded cybersecurity expert from Cyber1defense Communication, who led the team said the team embarked on the mission to bring free cybersecurity training and cyber safety awareness programs to remote villages in Ghana to ensure inclusiveness within the cyber knowledge space.

“In today’s interconnected world, the digital divide poses a significant challenge, especially for individuals residing in remote areas. Limited access to technology and resources exacerbates the vulnerability of these communities to cyber threats. Recognizing this disparity, Cyber1defense Communication is taking a proactive approach to bridge the digital divide by providing cybersecurity training and awareness programs to remote villages in Ghana”, he said.

Cyber1defense Communications donated four Laptops to support teaching and learning by the children.

The company has carried-out similar outreaches at its location at Abelempke in Accra for women, children and Adults as well as at Chemu Senior High School in Tema where it donated computers and money for the refurbishment of its computer science laboratory.
