Kenkey Index: The Price of Kenkey Has Not Risen

Accra, Ghana//-From December  2024 to March 2025, the average selling price of a ball of kenkey in Accra barely moved, rising by 0.29%–from 5.07 cedis to 5.09 cedis, compared with a 4.22% change for the same period in 2024, according to the latest Kenkey Index.

The year-on-year price change is 20.53%.

The average weight of kenkey per Ghana cedi is now 82 grams, down by just 1.08% from September 2024. Year-on-year, however, the weight has reduced by 22.38%.

Three months ago, one would have paid 6.17 cedis for a kenkey equivalent to the weight of a sachet of water. Now, that would be 6.26 cedis, an increase of 1.59%. For the same period in 2024, the increase was 6.08%.

The most common price for kenkey on the market is still 5 cedis, making up 71% of the market.

For the first quarter, we found the best-value kenkey in Darkuman and the worst in Kanda.
