The Police in Sereso Timpon in the Atwuma Mponua district in the Ashanti Region have been forced out of the town after the youth threatened to attack them.
The youth earlier attacked and burnt the Police station in the town and set a bus belonging to a Police officer on fire on Sunday evening.
“I did the evacuation of the Police personnel their family members and their personal effect last night,” Divisional Police commander for Atwima Chief Superintendent Kwasi Buah told Citi News.
It took a Police reinforcement team from Kumasi to put the situation under control.
Chief Superintendent Kwasi Buah said his officers were forced to hide in the roof of the Police station after the youth pelted them with stones and other dangerous objects.
They later pushed a benz Sprinter bus by the roadside to the Police station and set the station and the bus on fire.
“It took the fire service to kill the fire otherwise the whole building would have been raised to the ground” Chief Superintendent Buah.
He said “Part of the charge office is burnt, the barracks behind which is just behind the charge office was also vandalized, some of the door and windows were equally damage.”
The attack according to the Police was led by one Aikins Darko, who took his anger on the police after a brawl between him (Aikins Darko) and one Prince, who is the son of one of the officers.
Relative calm has returned to the area but the Police are currently on a man haunt for Aikins and his friends.
“We are looking for them, they should simply own up and come to the Police station, no matter what it is, the long arm of the law will catch up with them.” Chief Superintendent Buah warned. citifmonline.com
