Ghana: NAIMOS Arrests Chinese Illegal Miners For Polluting Subri River at Bekwai Subrisu

The two suspected Chinese nationals engaged in the incident

Accra, Ghana//-The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations (NAIMOS) Taskforce has arrested two Chinese nationals for engaging in illegal mining activities along the Subri River at Bekwai Subrisu in the Western Region.

‎‎The arrest was made on Monday, December 8, 2025, around 10:30 am during a raid carried out by NAIMOS troops on illegal mining sites in the area. The suspects were reportedly operating with two excavators and other mining equipment along the river.

‎According to the task force, activities of the illegal miners have heavily polluted the Subri River and other nearby water bodies. Large portions of land within the area have also been badly damaged as a result of the mining operations.

‎During the operation, several metallic gold-trapping platforms used by the illegal miners were dismantled. Three heavy-duty water pumping machines were also destroyed to halt further activities.

‎The two arrested Chinese nationals have been transported to Accra and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for further action.

‎‎NAIMOS says it will continue its surprise crackdown on illegal mining across the country as part of efforts to restore order and protect Ghana’s natural resources. GBC Ghana online
