Henry Quarshie, 42, was thinking of hanging his boots from commercial vehicle driving  a year ago before he was persuaded by his former employer to try his hands on his taxi which was later became an Uber driver-partner cab.

He was given the taxi on “work and pay” basis. Luckily, Mr Quarshie used only four months to finish the payment and it became his.

Today, Mr Quarshie  who is one the key Uber’s driver-partners in Accra, Ghana, is thinking of buying another taxi  to grow his taxi business. He makes an average of 1,000 Ghana cedis (US$250) per week and saves more than half of the amount.

Through the 25 percent agreement he entered with Uber which increases his weekly incomes, Mr Quarshie is planning to put up a house for his family.

“Poverty in the family is now a thing in the past.  I thank God for using Uber to change the entire family’s lives. I am also grateful to the management of Uber”, he told African Eye Report with a beaming smile.

“Watch for me! I will become a millionaire very soon”, he prophesied.

Adding his voice to the good work Uber is doing, Theophilus Solomon, a Uber driver-partner said apart from reducing traffic congestion in the city of Accra, Uber is also contributing to the growth and development of the country’s  taxi cab industry.

“We have thinking about how to ease the traffic congestion situation especially in Accra. But since commencement of Uber almost a year, it is gradually solving the situation. So, Uber has been beneficial to its driver-partners and the country at large”, he added.

Narrating his personal story, Mr Solomon said: “I am a part-time Uber driver-partner but I made between 150 Ghana cedis to 200 Ghana cedis (US$25  to US$50) a day. This is very good sales”.

“So, I am thinking of quitting my office job to concentrate on Uber as full-time job”, he revealed .

According to Mr Solomo and Mr Quarshie, they and their colleague Uber driver-partners are cashing in on the Uber partnership.

Besides, “we are trained by Uber on how to communicate to customers (passengers) /people. Uber also trained all the driver-partners on safety driving, entrepreneurship, and financial management”, they explained to Africa Eye Report.

“So, whenever you are in Uber driver-partner car, you are safe”, Mr Quarshie assured.
