Accra, July 6, 2017//-The planned shutdown of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah in the later part of this year would not affect electricity supply in the country, following the significant improvement of water levels in both the Akosombo and Bui hydro dams .
The Chief Executive of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), William Amuna who gave the assurance said the steady rise in the water levels of the dams would enable the Volta River Authority and Electricity Company of Ghana to generate power for the country without plunging it into darkness.
For instance, the water level in the Akosombo dam has risen to about 240.6 millimeters as at July 6, 2017 from the less than 200millimetres recorded few months ago, according to him.
However, energy industry experts have warned that the planned shutdown of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah on the Jubilee field would result in some power instability. That view, Mr Amuna has disagreed.
Tullow Oil Ghana, the unit operator of the Jubilee recently said it was expected to shut down its Jubilee fields operations later this year for the stabilisation, rotation and offloading system installation.
That announcement came at the back of the faulty turret bearing which had affected the production at the Jubilee oilfields. In its trading Statement and Operational Update for the first half of 2017, the oil company says it is confident measures put in place to solve the technical issues should be within the stipulated period.
