Accra, Ghana, June 29, 2018//-Family members of the late former Ghanaian Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur who died Friday, this morning have called on the public and the media to allow them some privacy as they mourn their brother.
This is contained in a statement issued in Accra today by the late Vice President’s brother, Jabesh Amissah-Arthur on behalf of the family pleaded.
“Respectfully, we wish to request that the media gives the family some privacy in these very difficult times,” it said.
The statement, which officially announced the death of Mr. Amissah-Arthur thanked Ghanaians for what it described as “outpouring of love and support in this moment of grief”.
“With deep regrets, we announce the sudden demise of the immediate past Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency K. B. Amissah-Arthur, in Accra this morning,” it said.
The family said will in due course announce funeral arrangements.
Meanwhile, scores of members of the NDC including parliamentarians and former ministers have thronged the Ridge home of the late veep to commiserate with the family.
Among them are Seth Terkper, Sam Brew Butler, Anita Desoso, Joshua Akamba and Cassiel Ato Forson.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur who served as Ghana’s veep from August 2012 to January 2017 under John Mahama, died Friday morning at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra where he was rushed after he reportedly collapsed while exercising at the Air Force Gym at Burma Camp.
The demise of the late veep has shocked thousands of Ghanaians including those within and outside his National Democratic Congress party as they’ve taken to social media to eulogise him for his service to the country.
