Accra, Ghana//-MTN Ghana today launched the 2023 edition of MTN Business SME Month to drive the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country.
The move welcomed by owners of SMEs is expected to create a month-long awareness on issues impeding the growth of players of the country’s SMEs sector which employs about 80 percent of the population in Ghana. The sector also accounts for some 60 percent of the country’s GDP.
The SME month would also give MTN Ghana the unique opportunity to get closer to SMEs and expose them to its SME Solutions such as SME Plus, Messenger and Business Manager, Microsoft 365 suite and Business Website.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, Acting Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Ghana, Daniel Asare said: “We passionately believe that we can use our solutions to drive growth hence the choice of our theme for the month-Optimizing Business Solutions for SME Growth”.
These SME Solutions, he explained, offer various Voice, Data and SMS packages that enable them to reach more customers with their products and services.
Also, SMEs would be exposed to solutions that allow them to efficiently manage their finances and other administration functions, Mr Asare added.
“MTN is a platform player, and our goal is to create an enabling environment for SMEs to access world class solutions at affordable rates.
In view of this, in the weeks up to the end of July, the following activities will take place in Accra and Kumasi as MTN Business drives the SME Month”.
The activities Mr Asare mentioned for the engagements of the SMEs in the two mega cities are- SME Activations, training sessions for selected SMEs, focus group discussions, customer appreciation programmes, a training on Chenosis for young developers, presentations on MTN Business solutions, product highlights and quizzes, and market fairs.
These activities, according to him, would afford MTN the opportunity to get closer to the SME community and offer them relevant digital tools and solutions to help grow and scale up their businesses.
“One activity that excites me most about the SME month is an initiative we are introducing called the SME Pop Shop. One SME (within our base) would be invited to MTN House and other MTN branches every day in July to display their business to MTN employees. What a fantastic way of supporting SMEs and getting them to reach more people”, he said.
Mr Asare therefore called on all persons operating within the SME space who are desirous of moving their business to the next level to partner MTN business and enjoy a variety of services to boost their businesses.
The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana in a short remark before launching the SME month said the telecoms company is preparing the SMEs in the country to take full advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to become regional players.
During the launch, some owners of SMEs who signed onto MTN Business solutions testified on the effectiveness and efficiency of the solutions provided to them by the telecoms giant.
