Accra, September 9, 2017//-MTN Ghana has officially  becomes Ghana’s number one 4G operator with 11.5 million data subscribers, of which 400, 000 are its 4G customers.

The telecoms market leader was the only company which won one of the two 800MHz spectrum slots at US$67.5million on December 2, 2015, and  deployed the service in June 2016 .

“Today, MTN’s 4G service is available nationwide in all regional capitals and key towns”, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Mr Ebenezer Asante disclosed this at a digital fair held at the Accra Mall as part of the seventh edition of the MTN’s annual Internet Festival (iFest).

He explained: “Our main objective for dedicating a whole month to data education is to create awareness and promote the inherent benefits of mobile broadband data. This initiative is in line with our vision to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world to our customers”.

This year’s edition is under the theme-‘Living a Connected Life’. The internet has become the nerve centre of many activities in personal and professional lives.

We have moved from the era of simply using the internet to send and receive emails to where a substantial part of lives is linked to our smart mobile devices. Today, we do research, watch movies, follow TV shows and play games online. These services are even more convenient with high speed internet access, according to Mr Asante.

He added that; “in spite of this growth, there are still many Ghanaians who are yet to experience the benefits of the internet. That is why we need the iFest education drive”.

On his part, the Data and Devices Manager at MTN Ghana, Abdul-Latif Issahaku emphasised that MTN’s 4G is the first and the only 4G service that enables users to experience higher-speed mobile internet on the same mobile phone from which they make and receive voice calls.

“With faster internet, the transmission of data in the form of text, images or video /TV can be done with ease, on-the-go, and at the best speeds. Higher speed internet promotes business growth and enriched social lives thereby boosting national development”, he added.

In line with efforts to encourage the use of the Company’s ultra-fast 4G services, every data bundle purchased above GH10 during the period of the celebration will attract up to 400% bonus upon the 4th purchase which will be available on *138# and *170# channels. There will also be giveaways in the various i-Fest competitions to be held.

There will be weekly Facebook Live sessions with various personalities during the month-long celebration. In addition, media celebrities will lead weekly consumer discussions on Facebook Live.

Furthermore,  MTN Video+ will be used as a Hero App for the month. MTN Video+ is an entertainment app containing hundreds of different comedy content. The service cuts across both local and foreign content. Users get to enjoy quality HD comedy content using MTN 4G from the variety of content available.

In addition to the data clinics and activations, MTN will undertake Digital Fairs at Accra and Kumasi Malls, Consumer Data Education, Social Media Video Contest and online games for customers and staff.

The 2016 iFest is being supported by Huawei, Samsung, Tecno, Jumia, among others.

With the aim to continuously create awareness on the relevance of the internet in everyday lives, MTN Ghana launched iFest in September 2011.

Each year, MTN promotes the use of the internet through data clinics and data activations across all regions of Ghana and selected tertiary institutions in the country.
