Kobo360, one of the fastest growing technology companies in Africa focused on the logistics/ supply chain framework, has disclosed that the company is building a Global Logistics Operating System (G-LOS) to facilitate movement of goods across the African continent.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Kobo360 West Africa, Bilal Abdullah who disclosed this in an interview maintained: “We’re building a Global Logistics Operating System [G-LOS] that will ensure fast movement of goods at a lower cost for businesses across Africa”.
There’s a serious lack of connectivity between stakeholders in Africa’s supply chain so our system has a pan-African focus which will resolve this, he added.
To this end, the company recently widened its operations to Ghana and Togo as part of its Pan-African expansion, while plans are far advanced to expand to Kenya, next month.
Uganda and Tanzania are next on our radar. They’re all amongst Africa’s fastest growing economies and their freight companies will require safe, reliable and cost-effective delivery of their cargo, Mr Abdullah added.
Furthermore, he said: “We also have some unique features on our new app. For example, drivers and customers are able to bid for the price of a trip before selection. It’s through innovations such as these that we’re looking to make processes more transparent in the logistics space”.
Strategizing to take control of the Africa’s $150 billion logistics industry
Before Kobo360 entered the market, Africa’s state of logistic value chain was informal, making it challenging for many cargo owners.
“We redesigned the process with a digital platform. Since we launched, we’ve served 1,450 businesses and our reliability score stands at 96%.
I think this is down to the fact our customers trust us to get their businesses moving. As long as we continue to make this the centre of any of our activities moving forward, I think we’ll play a crucial role in the continent moving forward”, Mr Abdullah said.
