Washington DC, US// – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement calling on the Sudan Armed Forces to join peace talks set to begin this week in Geneva, Switzerland.
“The fighting in Sudan has caused the worst humanitarian disaster in the world. I urge the Sudan Armed Forces to send a team to Switzerland immediately to join the peace talks scheduled to begin on August 14th.
The parties must chart a path to sustainable peace and international partners must find a way to deliver humanitarian aid now. Famine has already been declared in at least one area of Sudan, and we have a moral obligation to help those in need.”
