Accra, Ghana//-The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has extended its deepest condolences to the families of the eight (8) individuals, among them the Minister of Defence, Dr. Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

They tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

“We also express our sympathy to the President and Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Democratic Congress, all of whom have lost dedicated and distinguished members in this national tragedy”, CDD-Ghana said in a press release issued in Accra today.

In this period of grief, the leading NGO urged the public and media to show compassion, respect the dignity of the deceased and the privacy of the bereaved families.

“CDD-Ghana also supports calls for a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident. The passing of these officials, who died in service to the nation while en route to Obuasi, Ashanti Region, to launch a government initiative against illegal mining, should strengthen our resolve to intensify the fight against this destructive practice.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, and with the entire nation during this time of mourning”, the release concluded.
