Accra, Ghana//-As part of the Cedi@60 celebrations, Governor Dr Johnson Asiama, on November 20, 2025, led a special tree-planting exercise at the Bank Square.
This forms part of the Bank’s pledge to plant 60 trees to mark Cedi@60, while promoting sustainability in the Bank’s operational environment.
Dr Asiama was joined by the First Deputy Governor of the Bank, Dr Zakari Mumuni, senior officials of the Bank and staff of the Bank, who collectively took part in the planting ceremony.
The event highlighted the Bank’s drive to foster a greener, more resilient ecosystem, while aligning with national goals on environmental conservation.
Commenting on the exercise, Dr Asiama said: “Trees represent life and are crucial for the environment and our well-being.
The resilience of trees helps in addressing climate risk, something the Bank is committed to. As we celebrate Cedi@60 to showcase our economic resilience, we plant these trees to demonstrate our commitment to environmental sustainability”.
Dr Asiama noted that the Cedi@60 celebration is not only a reflection on Ghana’s currency journey, but also an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the future.
“Planting these trees symbolises growth, and our commitment to safeguarding the environment for generations to come,” he said.

The tree-planting activity reaffirms the Bank of Ghana’s dedication to sustainability, responsible stewardship, and national development as it commemorates six decades of the Ghana Cedi.
The First and Second Deputy Governors, Dr Zakari Mumuni and Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, also planted trees at different office locations of the Bank.
