Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana, June 26, 2019//-In a move to bring sanity into the chieftaincy institution Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has cracked the whip on two chiefs in Asanteman.
The chiefs have been destooled for various offences contrary to the customs of the Asante Kingdom.
The two are: Nana Akyamfuo Kwame Akowua, Asafohene and Head of the the Akwamu Division and Nana Ahenkro Osei Ababio III, Ahenkrohene.
Nana Akowua who has been Asafohene for eight years, was removed from his prominent position for gross insubordination towards the Manhyia Palace, particularly flouting the great Oath of the Golden Stool, one of the pillars of Asanteman; disrespect to Manhyia; disrespect for Asafo Stool elders; and illegal sales of lands.
On the part of the Ahenkrohene, who has ruled for twenty years, was among other things was destooled for taking lands disputes cases to court, instead of Manhyia Palace, a situation Manhyia treats as ‘disrespectful’ and undermining the power of Manhyia.
It would be recalled that on ascending the Golden Stool as the 16th Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s early initiatives included an order to withdraw all chieftaincy disputes pending in court for settlement through the traditional and customary structures
The Asante Monarch has vowed to protect the 400 year old customs and traditions that have guided and helped Asanteman to be one of the powerful and fearful in the world’s history. He made it absolutely clear that any chief, irrespective of his status, who goes contrary to the customs and traditions, will be destooled.
According to interviews conducted by Otec News’ Reporter, Francis Appiah, in Kumasi, many people describe the Asantehene again as “King Solomon” for most of the chiefs in Asanteman are hiding behind the Asantehene to ‘bully’ the people; involve themselves in illegal sales of lands; illegal installing and destooling of sub-chiefs.
The people believe that the Asantehene in destooling such chiefs will bring back sanity and respect into the chieftaincy institution.
It would be recalled that on ascending the Golden Stool as the 16th Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s early initiatives included an order to withdraw all chieftaincy disputes pending in court for settlement through the traditional and customary structures.
