Airtel Ghana has made a generous donation of a Nissan Pickup truck to Mrs. Diana Adongo, a Touching Lives recipient.
Mrs. Diana Adongo’s passion and love for empowering women has seen her sacrifice her life and personal finances to bring change to the women in her community and beyond.
For the last 17 years, Madam Diana has single handedly equipped many women in the northern regions of Ghana with entrepreneurial skills and assisted them to get back on their feet.
These women have gone ahead to set up batik, tie – dye and soap making business. Some have gone further to open shops and thereby creating employment for their communities.
In order to make her work easier and far reaching, Airtel Touching Lives presented this ‘Change Maker’ with a Nissan Pickup truck. The car would be of great help to the recipient who sometimes has to travel long distances to different districts for her training programs.
“Empowerment programs that invest in women pay off in multiple ways,” said Lucy Quist Managing Director of Airtel Ghana. “Not only do they build the capacity of Ghana by equipping women with the skills, knowledge, tools, and confidence they need to succeed in life, programs such as the ones being run by Mrs. Adongo gives women the skills to take on leadership roles at home and in their communities.”
“When women are empowered, they can claim their rights to leadership, opportunities and make their own choices. Together, change makers such as Mrs. Adongo will generate synergies that capitalize on Airtel Ghana’s CSR objective of investing in the power of potential”.
She noted that when women are empowered – economically and socially – they become agents of change for economic growth, social progress and sustainable development”.
Also present at the handover ceremony was Hannah Agbozo, Director of Legal & Corporate Affairs, who expressed her impressions as follows, “The importance of women empowerment cannot be over emphasized and Mrs. Adongo has epitomized the very essence of Airtel Touching Lives which is rewarding selfless acts of kindness above and beyond their call of duty.”
Mrs. Adongo who was overwhelmed by the generosity shown by Airtel Ghana thanked the company for its exemplary work.
For about 17 years, she has single-handedly brought change to the lives of many and it is that spirit of inclusiveness, believing in the power of potential and empowerment that makes her very deserving of Airtel Ghana’s help since these are the very values they stand for.
