Airtel Ghana Keeps Hopes Alive

 

Airtel GhanaAIRTEL  Ghana continues to reward individuals whose self-determination and efforts are bringing about positive change to their communities.

The award winning Corporate Social Responsibility programme, ‘Airtel Touching Lives’, has offered support to the hard work and sacrifices of Martin a.k.a Berberto in raising up his football team in his community under difficult circumstances .

When martin started his team some twenty years ago at Sogakope in the Volta Region , he had neither the resources nor someone to share his dreams with . Through determination , he has come a long way getting past the difficult moments with his team.

As a barber, Martin does not make enough to cater for his personal needs and the upkeep of his team . Sometimes he sells his personal effects to meet the needs of his team.

“sometimes he sells his personal effects to keep the team going ” says Pince Akpable ,nominator and a member of Berberto’s team.

To Newton Zormelo, a youngster and the town’s new football sensation, playing football is like with his best friend and is looking forward to become the next national football player.

“when i am playing , those who watch me motivate me and i am able score more goals quickly”, he said.

Manic Hopeson , also a team member is looking forward to become a professional footballer .

Such is the magnitude of responsibility that on the shoulders of Martin as he coaches the 75 players in his team to achieve their dreams.

To help achieve his dreams for the team, Touching Lives is offering the team a whole set of training kits to boost the morale and capacity of the team.

Additionally, Martin has been offered a weekend of soccer training at the prestigious FIFA sponsored organiastion, the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence located in Prampram.

Touching Lives also touched the lives of the Dogbe family in Tema who have been struggling to keep their dreams alive.

Ruth has the dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant while his younger sister dreams of becoming a professional nurse and a lecturer.

Their mother Madam Margret is a seamstress and does not make enough to care for the educational needs of her two daughters.

Touching Lives is taking has granted full scholarships to the two to pursue their academic dreams.

Margret also received two new sewing machines for work and the training of other young people in her community

Episode 9 (nine) of Touching Lives flashed back into the story of AME Zion School in Takoradi, in the Western Region where an ICT center provided by Airtel in the previous season is helping improve learning.

“The students performance has increased drastically. When the computers came and the internet connected , the pupils were able to search for information on their own and believe me , they bring up a lot of information i do not know of ” , Patrick Attah , a teacher noted in an interview.
