
Accra, Ghana//-Nigeria marked its 65th Independence Day with a symbolic gesture of unity and cooperation, as leaders from both Nigeria and Ghana raised a toast to commemorate a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening bilateral relations.
The celebration, held in Accra, brought together top officials and dignitaries, highlighting the shared history and future ambitions of the two West African powerhouses.
Speaking at the event, Ghana’s Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, described the milestone as a testament to Nigeria’s enduring democratic journey and reaffirmed Ghana’s unwavering commitment to its partnership with Nigeria.
“The 65th Independence celebration is a significant milestone that reflects the resilience of democracy. Ghana remains steadfast in its strategic partnership with Nigeria, which continues to be a pillar of stability within the ECOWAS region,” he stated.
Mr Buah emphasised that both nations must continue to pursue economic transformation and strengthen their diplomatic missions to foster sustainable development across the sub-region.
Representing Nigeria, the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Moses Ifedayo Adeoye, praised the enduring bond between the two countries.
He highlighted Nigeria’s role in supporting Ghana through the supply of natural gas, underscoring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to ensuring a steady energy partnership that drives economic growth.
“Nigeria’s government has reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to provide steady gas supply to Ghana in order to strengthen our bilateral ties. Beyond energy, we remain committed to peacekeeping, national security, and conflict resolution efforts in the region,” Ambassador Adeoye affirmed.
He used occasion to urge Nigerians living in Ghana to uphold values of hard work, unity, and resilience, contributing positively to Ghana’s economic growth while fostering the spirit of Pan-African solidarity.
The event concluded with both delegations raising their glasses in a symbolic toast to the MoU, reflecting a renewed vision of cooperation, prosperity, and regional stability.
