
Accra, Ghana//– Audience stood and clapped when Dr Angel Dwumena-Aboagye was adjudged as the ultimate winner of this year’s MTN Heroes of Change season 7.
She received a cheque worth GH¢100,000, a trophy and a citation at the grand finale of season 7 of the MTN Heroes of Change programme held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra last night.
Three other winners- Martha Opoku Agyemang, Adangabey Yaw Rockson and Sakina Mumuni won prizes in health, education and economic empowerment categories of the programme.
Each of them took home GH¢60,000, a trophy and a citation. While the remaining six finalists also received GH¢45,000 each.
Nominators whose nominees made it to the top 10 also received GH¢5,000 each.
The prize monies are meant to support the community projects of Dr Angela Dwumena-Aboagye and the other winners.
Who is Dr Angela Dwumena-Aboagye?
She is a lawyer, gender activist, and the Executive Director of The Ark Foundation Ghana, an NGO that seeks to address women’s human rights in Ghana.
Dr Dwamena-Aboagye established the first shelter for battered women in Ghana and also set up a crisis centre, with a legal centre and a counselling centre to address sexual and gender-based violence and child abuse in different locations in the country.
She is also a motivational and public speaker and a seasoned counsellor.

The organisers of the programme, MTN Ghana Foundation, introduced a key feature in this season 7, which are Media Hero and Digital Hero categories, highlighting institutional and tech-driven contributions to social good.
The 3 Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Media General Ghana, the parent company of TV3 Ghana, and Citi FM Foundation, the CSR arm of Citi FM and Channel One TV, both received the Media Hero awards along with GHS 30,000.
They received a citation and a plaque. The two foundations were recognised for leveraging media platforms to not only report on, but also directly intervene and mobilise citizens to donate items and cash for victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage disaster.
For the digital category, Nana Tea and the Bus Stop Boys were jointly awarded GHS 30,000 each for using social media to mobilise support for the poor and underprivileged, reflecting the growing influence of grassroots digital advocacy in shaping public impact in the country.
Dr Dwumena-Aboagye, on behalf of all the award winners, thanked the MTN Ghana Foundation for the honour done them and pledged to continue their good works.
Speaking at the event, the CEO of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, underscored the transformative role of technology in addressing social challenges in Ghana and across the African continent.

Earlier, the MTN Heroes of Change IV programme highlighted the humanitarian activities of the 10 nominees in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment on national television platforms for 13 weeks.
Instructively, the MTN Heroes of Change was initiated in July 2013 to recognise and reward persons who have provided significant humanitarian services to their communities through personal sacrifices.
