Nomadic Herdsmen crisis: DCE Begs IGP for weapons

FulaniThe Sekyere Afram Plains District Security Council has appealed to the Inspector General of Police to arm the police there to be able to maintain security in the area.

Two persons were on Tuesday shot and killed in Drobonso and Agogo in what appears to be reprisals between nomadic herdsmen and the indigenes.

Reports say angry residents of Afirisre from the Agogo Central District shot an unidentified man after news of the shooting of a farmer by suspected nomadic herdsmen broke.

Since the IGP intervened in the crisis last month, the District has been footing the bill to keep a meaningful police presence in the community.

“What we can do as an Assembly we are doing it. We are providing their quarters for them, we have bought a motorbike for them but some things like the weapons they use, the Assembly cannot provide weapons for them,” the District Chief Executive said

The DCE who is also the Chairman of the DISEC told Joy News that without weapons the police have little chance of enforcing law and order.
