July 23, 2020//-African family businesses are the lifeblood of the continent’s growth. At a time when the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted large swathes of the global economy, the vast majority of African family business leaders have traded an optimistic outlook for a pessimistic one.
With their confidence in the economic situation in their countries of operation dropping from 83% at the start of the year to 25% today, according to the Africa CEO Survey 2020.
In this time of uncertainty, there is a growing need for African family businesses to be more agile, independent and innovative than ever before so that they can turn the crisis into a source of opportunity for their development.
To address these challenges, the AFRICA CEO FORUM will bring together between 200 and 300 of the continent’s most influential family business members during an interactive and innovative 100% digital event centred on the theme “Preparing for the Future”.
Experience sharing, hands-on small group workshops, exclusive encounters with experts and private meetings: over the course of this six-hour event, participants will be able to take advantage of practical sessions (workshops and roundtables) that can help them instil a culture of agility, independence and innovation at their companies, organise business leadership to come out on top of the crisis, prepare for a new future, seize investment opportunities and work for the common good.
Several leading experts have already agreed to take part in the event, including Jennifer Pendergast, Executive Director of the Center for Family Enterprises at the Kellogg School of Management (United States); Elmarie Venter, Director of the Nelson Mandela University Family Business Unit (South Africa); Peter Vogel, Director of the IMD Global Family Business Center (Switzerland); and Alan Barr, Head of KPMG Private Enterprise for Africa (South Africa).
A first-of-its-kind event, the Family Business Summit resonates with the AFRICA CEO FORUM’s mission to highlight the challenges African businesses face, offer concrete and innovative solutions, and make the private sector’s voice heard on the continent’s major development challenges.
Yet another strong initiative brought to you by the AFRICA CEO FORUM, the Family Business Summit seeks to be the first stepping stone in creating a pan-African community whose members share the ambition of carving out a modern, forward-looking brand of African family capitalism.
