Accra, April 18, 2018//-The board of the Metro Mass Transit Limited has interdicted the Managing Director, Bennet Aboagye to proceed on leave with immediate effect following investigations into alleged corruption against him.
Mr Aboagye and his Personal Assistant Yiadom Kessie have become the talk of town after an employee of the state-owned transport company accused the two of financial malfeasance.
To this end, the workers of the company petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate Mr Aboagye and Mr Kessie.
But Mr Aboagye denied the allegations and described them as “blackmail and extortion” orchestrated to tarnish his hard earned reputation.
However, a statement issued by the board chairman of the Metro Mass Transit Limited, Ahmed Arthur asked Mr Aboagye to proceed on leave in order to provide “an unfettered atmosphere” for investigations.
On Monday, an emergency board meeting was called at which the decision to interdict Mr Aboagye was taken.
Meanwhile, an investigative committee has also been set up to look into all the allegations. The MD will be given an opportunity by the committee to respond to the allegations, the meeting decided, according to the statement.
“You are therefore requested to hand over your duties to the Deputy Managing Director in charge of Operations,” it stated.
