Business Freelance App Adjudged Overall MTN App Challenge Winner

Joseph Morny Edem, Prince Mensah, and Adinan Alhassan’s app ‘Amatsi’, a Business Freelance app emerged as the overall winner of this year’s MTN App Challenge version 4.0.

The group received GH₵20,000.00 cash via MTN Mobile Money, certificate of participation and a plaque.

The group also came up as the gold winners for that same Business Freelance  category. They took GH₵20,000 cash via mobile money, Huawei MediaPad 11 10 device, a certificate, and a plaque for being the golden winners. This brought group’s take home GH₵40,000.00.

Following closely is Isaac Sesi, Abdul Latif-Amadu, and Peter O’Hara Adu whose app ‘Pasco’ in the Education Freelance category won gold. They received GH₵20,000.00 cash via mobile money , Huawei MediaPad 11 10 device, a certificate, and a plaque.

In the Game & Entertainment Freelance category, developer of ‘Counters Ball Pro’-Aaron Sanyuo also took home GH₵20,000.00 cash via mobile money , Huawei MediaPad 11 10 device, a certificate, and a plaque as a golden winner.

In the Animation freelance category, Toby Svanekiser, Nii Ofei-Kyei Dodoo, and Sarpei Kwadey with their app ‘the bird and kite’ received GH₵15,000.00 cash via mobile money, a certificate, and a plaque as a gold winner.

Bubunyo Nyavor and Kofi Hayford came top (gold) with their app ‘AF Radio’ and also picked GH₵15,000.00 cash via mobile money, Huawei MediaPad 11 10 device, a certificate, and a plaque.

Additionally, in the Freelance Internet of Thing (IOT) category, ‘smarter gas’ developer Jephthah Adotey Kpakpo emerged the gold winner and took home GH₵15,000.00 cash via mobile money, Huawei MediaPad 11 10 device, a certificate, and a plaque.

While Norris Boateng Aboagye, Samuel Raymond Davies, and Foster Awintiti Akugri (KNUST) came top as gold winners and proudly walked away with home GH₵10,000.00 cash via mobile money, certificate, 10 laptops from IPMC, and a plaque.

‘Monuments’ developed by Drah Michael took home GH₵10,000.00 cash via mobile money, certificate, 10 laptops from IPMC, and a plaque as gold winner in the Animation Tertiary category.

In the Senior High School (SHS) awards, ‘red button’ app developed by the Presbyterian Boys SHS, Legon emerged as the gold winner and received GH₵3,000.00 cash via mobile money, 5 Desktop computers from IPMC, and a certificate.

Keta SHS in the Volta Region walked away with GH₵1,500.00 cash via mobile money, 5 Desktop computers from IPMC, and a certificate as the school app ‘school profile’ emerged as the silver winner.

‘Sunu the jumper’ app developed by Accra Academy SHS was voted as the bronze winner and received GH₵1,000.00 cash via mobile money, 5 Desktop computers from IPMC, and a certificate.

Speaking at the awards ceremony in Accra, Asher Khan, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Ghana said: “As the leading telecoms service provider with the vision of leading the delivery of a bold new digital world, the MTN App Challenge forms part of MTN Group’s aim to grow the app developer community in Africa and increase local content across its footprint”.

“We may not be moving as fast as developers in the developed world but we believe that gradually we will catch up with the rest of the world in growing our economies through digital projects”, he noted.

“This is why we keep updating our categories every year to make room for what I call relevant and timely creative projects”, Mr Khan stated.

“To take this effort to its logical next step, MTN has partnered with the industry experts to commercialize viable apps challenge projects through the strategic initiative called “Katapult”.

On her part, Mrs Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Service Executive of MTN Ghana, used the occasion to encourage the developers to continue to come out with innovative and user friendly projects that will satisfy the needs of the users.

. Dr Osei K. Darkwa, the President of the Ghana Technology University College advised app developers to take advantage of growing demand of apps to develop apps to solve the challenges of the country.

A member of the overall best app winning group said the group, even as it has won the challenge, will continue to develop apps to solve the needs of the people in the country.
