Ghana: MTN Deploys 4G LTE Service in all Regional Capitals

MTN Ghana has added another service to its bouquet of services following the commercial launching of the network’s 4G LTE service at a colourful ceremony at the premises of the plush MTN House in Accra, this morning.

The event which was attended by the Chief Executive of MTN Ghana, Ebenezer Asante, and other key executives of the leading telecom services provider witnessed a military aircraft flying over the MTN Ghana headquarters building with the MTN 4G flag.

This singular act attracted the attention of motorists, officials of MTN and others to come out in their numbers to watch the aircraft display. While journalists and other stakeholders who attended the launch were given the opportunity to try their hands on the 4G LTE service at the launch.

The 4G LTE service, according to senior officials of the company is currently in all the 10 regional capitals and other key towns in some of the districts of the country.

In a brief speech, the Chief Executive of MTN Ghana, Ebenezer Asante described the launch of the 4G service as a great service for the country’s competitive telecom industry.

According to him, the 4G LTE service would provide customers with faster data speed.

Mr Asante was quick to enumerate the benefits of the 4G LTE to the Ghanaian economy, saying it would lead to the creation of new services, mobile commerce (mobile banking), new revenue streams for government, new jobs for the youth, and increased business productivity and efficiency leading to improved margins.

The other benefits of the LTE on innovative services and social impacts, he mentioned include-  surveillance and live traffic reports, location based services, Mobile TV/VOD, improved communication and access to information within the shortest possible time, improved networking across communities, institutions and agencies, and enhanced entertainment (music, video, streaming, downloads and uploads).

The Acting Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of MTN Ghana, Noel Kojo-Ganson told journalists at the launch: “The coverage and extension of the 4G LTE service is continuing and we hope to reach all parts of the country”.

He added that with the launch of the service, they are poised to change the landscape of the ICT and telecom industry of the country.

 MTN Ghana which joined the licensed 4G LTE operators are-Surfline, Blu, and Busy but Goldkey which has deployed equipment but not yet started commercial operations in the West African country.

The MTN Ghana which recently acquired the 4G LTE licence is the only mobile network operator (MNO) in the country operating the new 4G LTE industry.
