London, UK// – Luanda, Angola, is gearing up to host its inaugural race and the fifth round of the 2026 UIM E1 World Championship presented by PIF, in just over two weeks.
September 12 and 13 will mark the Championship’s first visit to Southern Africa, with star power set to be in attendance.
NBA legend and E1 team owner LeBron James posted on social media about his excitement at seeing his team compete on Luanda’s waters.
LeBron told his fans that he: “can’t wait to get to Angola, I’ve got to get there to support my team, Team AlUla. You know we’re bringing that first place. We’re going to have an unbelievable time. It’s going to be a great experience, great fun. We’re going for gold baby, let’s go!”
His Team AlUla championed by LeBron James, will be one of 10 teams competing for glory at the E1 Luanda GP 2026 that will take place at the Yacht Club of Luanda.
Angola will join a global calendar that already includes host cities such as Lake Como, Monaco and Miami and which spans four continents.
Known for its deep maritime heritage, natural resources and prime coastal position, Luanda stands as one of Africa’s key maritime gateways.
The race also underscores Angola’s rising profile on the world sporting stage, alongside its ongoing investment in sport and sustainable development. It aligns closely with E1’s mission to advocate for electrified technology adoption to preserve our oceans, lakes and waterways.
LeBron’s post comes after Hollywood star Will Smith visited Angola in March to announce the race alongside E1 founder and Chairman Alejandro Agag and Angolan Minister of Tourism, Márcio de Jesus Lopes Daniel.
At the time Will said that: “Africa has always embodied passion and relentless drive. E1 in Angola is more than a moment; it’s a movement. This September, the world will be watching, and I’m excited to be part of it!”
Alejandro Agag, founder and Chairman of E1, said:”I am thrilled to be bringing the E1 World Championship to the waters and people of Luanda to help inspire Angolan youth through sports. As our newest race location, and our first race in Southern Africa, it is a major statement of intent for us and for the country.
“I am looking forward to being back in Angola in just two weeks to catch up with some of our owners, fans and guests and to see some close, competitive racing on Luanda’s water.”
