WLGA and IEA Convene to Address Resilience in Global LPG Supply Chains

James Rockall, Managing Director and CEO, World Liquid Gas Association

The World Liquid Gas Association (WLGA) will join the International Energy Agency (IEA) at the jointly hosted LPG Leadership Forum to discuss securing global liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies.

This Forum, taking place on Thursday, 25th June, underscores the urgency in building resilience in global LPG supply in light of the ongoing Middle East crisis and wider geopolitical uncertainty. The discussion will address:

  • Exploring the potential role of strategic LPG storage and reserve mechanisms, particularly for developing economies and import-dependent markets.
  • Critical infrastructure protection, including the safeguarding of terminals and storage reserves.
  • Supply diversification and national energy resilience plans with a specific focus on Africa.

Attendees will include Dr Fatih Birol, IEA Executive Director, and Mr Donal Murphy, WLGA President and CEO DCC Ireland. Participants will include 17 governments represented from across the world, together with over 80 senior representatives from industry, and officials from NATO.

In emerging and developing economies, LPG offers a clean and cost-effective energy solution to communities lacking access to electricity and clean cooking solutions. Recent disruption linked to the Middle East crisis has underlined the vulnerability of some markets to interruptions in LPG supply.

India is suffering from its worst gas crisis in decades with governments cutting supplies for industries to stave off a shortage. Last year India consumed 33.15 million metric tonnes of LPG and roughly 330 million households in the country rely on it[1].

These discussions will no doubt continue during Liquid Gas Week, the industry’s flagship global event which will take place in Istanbul under the theme ‘Resilience in a Changing World’ to showcase the Liquid Gas sector’s unwavering strength, adaptability, and spirit of innovation in the face of global uncertainty. For more details visit www.liquidgasweek.com/Istanbul-2026.

‘Recent events have reminded us that energy resilience cannot be taken for granted. LPG supports households, businesses and communities across the world, including many markets where access to reliable energy is already fragile.

This Forum is an opportunity for industry, governments and international partners to look practically at how we can strengthen storage, diversify supply routes and build a more resilient global LPG system.’ James Rockall, Managing Director and CEO, World Liquid Gas Association
