Ghana’s Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has commissioned 100 new buses for Metro Mass Transit Limited, calling it a key step toward improving public transport and driving economic growth.

Speaking at the Accra ceremony on Friday, 22 May 2026, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, she said efficient transport was essential for moving people, goods, and services smoothly across the country.

“When our transport system is efficient, people, goods, and services move as they should. That is why enhancing public transport is central to our economy,” she said.

The 100 buses are part of a larger order of 300 brand-new 29-seater buses meant to expand Metro Mass Transit’s operations nationwide. According to the Vice President, the goal is to cut reliance on unsafe, unreliable, and costly transport options while giving Ghanaians a better commuting experience.

She noted the new buses are fuel-efficient and built with passenger safety and comfort in mind, adding that such standards should apply across Ghana’s public transport system. The buses will also increase carrying capacity, extend services to more communities, and reduce pressure on commuters.

All operational requirements, including registration, licensing, insurance, and safety inspections, were completed before deployment.

“This demonstrates professionalism and readiness in the management of public transport assets,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said.
