Johannesburg, South Africa//-Axis Communications, the leading manufacturer of physical security and network surveillance solutions, has shared details of its partnership with iXAfrica, East Africa’s largest hyperscale, carrier-neutral data centre, through the brand’s latest customer success story.
The story explores how iXAfrica set out to build a secure, trusted environment for enterprises, cloud service providers and connectivity providers at NBOX1, the firm’s flagship data centre in Nairobi. It highlights how a reliable security environment that leverages Axis devices and technologies ensures operational visibility and control while unlocking intelligent insights that enable proactive security and enhanced efficiency.

The need for a comprehensive, end-to-end security solution
The story of Axis and iXAfrica extends all the way back to NBOX1’s design and construction processes, during which iXAfrica identified potential security risks and the need for a solution that combined quality, high-performance video surveillance, access control and advanced analytics.
Located on Mombasa Road in Nairobi, NBOX1 covers a land area of 17,300 square metres and features a total colocation space of 6,621 square metres. Comprised of two buildings, the campus has extensive security requirements stemming from risks such as perimeter intrusion, cable theft, insider threats and attacks on critical infrastructure.
“We wanted a modern, reliable security environment from day one,” says Clement Martineau, co-founder of iXAfrica. “Our customers expect high visibility, strict access control, and full alignment to global standards.”
Working with Axis and local system integrator Securex Agencies, iXAfrica deployed Axis network cameras and access control solutions across indoor and outdoor areas, supported by system devices such as servers, readers and other accessories. All devices were then integrated within Axis Camera Station, enabling security staff to manage campus monitoring and access control.
Unlocking intelligent insights and achieving immediate results
With the deployment of Axis devices and integrated solutions, iXAfrica was able to learn more about its operations through intelligent analytics. Processes such as motion-based recording and automatic camera pop-ups transformed how the staff worked and laid the data-based groundwork for improved operational efficiency.
Additionally, iXAfrica unlocked immediate improvements such as shorter incident verification and response times, improved coverage and an overall shift from reactive to proactive perimeter control. The deployment of an end-to-end solution also enabled iXAfrica to improve its risk profile, leading to reductions in its insurance premiums.

It has strengthened our operations, improved compliance, and given us full confidence in the security of the facility.”
