Accra, Ghana//-The Pelican Hotel, which is less than six-month-old is championing sustainability in Ghana’s competitive hotel and hospitality industry with a bang.
The state-of-the-art hotel, which is precisely located at Cantonments, the safest suburb in Accra, is a modern lifestyle destination designed for discerning travellers and guests seeking comfort, elegance, and exceptional service.
The Head of Sales at The Pelican Hotel, Solomon Wollie-Wollimoh, told journalists recently at a press soiree that the hotel is big in sustainability and its practices.
In his own words: “Sustainability is our hallmark. Every particular strand, whether we are cooking food, we are swimming or at the gym, or a staff member is dressing, sustainability is embedded in every area of our operations”.
As sustainability is meeting current needs without harming future generations’ ability to meet theirs, balancing environmental protection (using resources wisely), social equity (well-being, justice), and economic viability (long-term prosperity) for a thriving planet and society long-term, The Pelican Hotel is driving and championing sustainability.

The sustainability which is being championed and practised by the hotel is about responsible resource use, reducing waste, promoting fairness, and ensuring ecosystems, communities, and the hotel remains healthy and productive indefinitely.
So, we have water treatment system to make sure that we have sustainability there. We have green use; we have a lot of paperless environment that we are working. We have a lot of less plastic use as drinks are served in bottles that are not plastic, Mr Wollie-Wollimoh said.
“It is intentional but expensive. It is eating into our profit, but we are committed to our vision and expectation rather than to compromise. That is the brand that we stand for. We stand for culture, sophistication and co-exist all in one”.
That is why Mr Wollie-Wollimoh said earlier that their rooms and environment are intuitive, because they are able adapt to every situation. So, whether it is the whole media that is coming to have a dinner at a discounted rate, we can provide that for you. Whether it is a corporate event that is going to launch their product, the hotel can do that for them. Or whether it is a strategic board meeting, they can provide that for them. So, there is no single hospitality requirement in any hotel across the world that The Pelican Hotel cannot deliver in this hotel.
Every room is comparable to any hotel you can find across the world, he stated.
The location of the hotel, according to him, is supreme. As a matter of fact, an American intelligence that categorises the safety of countries by colours such as green, blue, red, among others, Ghana is plain and the safest suburb of Accra is the cantonments area where The Pelican Hotel is located.
In terms of proximity to the airport, over 90% of foreign travellers are based on how close you are to the airport. The hotel is just located about seven minutes from the Kotoka International Airport.

For Francis Okai Okoh, Chief Executive Officer of Devtraco Group, which owns The Pelican Hotel, sees it as Devtraco’s demonstrable commitment to ethical investment and quality development, while adding significant value to Accra’sgrowing hospitality landscape.
The Group’s Director of Development, Sydney Quaye, noted: “For 30 years, we have seen as the wholly Ghanaian-owned company (Devtraco Group) operating as a real estate developer with a vision, with integrity, discipline and with execution.

From our inception, we have believed that world-class development can be conceived, financed, delivered and sustained by Ghanaian hands to global standards”.
The Pelican Hotel is being managed by Aleph Hospitality, which is headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
