10 Candidates Compete for Togo Presidency

Lome, January 9, 2020-As expected, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), closed Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at midnight, the filing of applications for the presidential election on 22 February.

A total of ten (10) applications were recorded files, inform the institution responsible for the organization and supervision of the elections through a statement issued a few hours after the deadline of folders deposits.

These files, then the statement said CENI, from political parties, groupings of political parties and independent candidates.

While welcoming the success of this phase of its mission, the INEC through the voice of its president Tchambakou AYASSOR, said she will, “pursuant to Article 154 of the Electoral Code, to preliminary review of all the cases registered, which will be sent to the Minister of territorial Administration, Decentralization and local Government for the continuation of the process. ”

For now, the INEC is reluctant to give the names of ten (10) candidates whose files were recorded. But according to well informed sources from the INEC, it is among other candidates of the National Alliance for Change (ANC), People’s Health Movement Patriotic for Democracy and Development (MPDD) of new Vision, the Panafrican Democratic Party (PDP), the Citizen Movement for Democracy and Development (MCD), the Union for the Republic (UNITE), the Democratic Alliance for Integral Development (ADDI), of the Covenant Socialist for renewal (PSR) and an independent candidate.

Note that it is the Constitutional Court, which will make public ultimately the final list of candidates to be selected to participate in the presidential election which will open February 6, 2020.
