Accra, Ghana//-The Rent Control Department of Ghana has instructed all private hostel owners, facility managers, operators, and others involved in student housing to put a hold on any planned increases to hostel fees for the 2026/2027 academic year.
This directive was outlined in a statement released on Tuesday, May 19, and signed by Acting Rent Commissioner Frederick Opoku.
It’s described as a temporary measure while consultations with stakeholders on pricing and related issues take place.
The statement also noted that the department will soon organise a meeting with key players in the student accommodation sector, including student representative groups, to discuss fair, sustainable, and lawful approaches to setting hostel fees and standards.
