Accra, June 05, 2017//- Access Women Network (AWN), a women’s group within Access Bank, has assured it will continue to support the Tetteh Ocloo State School to nurture the pupils to realize their dreams.
President of the AWN who is also the Bank’s Head of Human Resources, Ann Obeng-Ababio made the pledge when the female staff of Access Bank as part of series of activities to mark this year’s Mother’s Day celebrations spent some time with students of the Tetteh Ocloo School of the Deaf, which is the bank’s adopted school.
She assured of the bank’s long standing commitment to the school in giving it the necessary support.
“Just as the tree we have planted in this school grows each day, our relationship with this school will continue to grow stronger in many years to come,” Obeng-Ababio observed.
The Tetteh Ocloo State School is the only special school for the hearing impaired in the Greater Accra Region and provides education for 310 pupils who commute daily from various communities in Accra and parts of the Eastern Region.
Since its adoption in 2011 by Access Bank in the Tema enclave under the Employee Volunteering Programme (EVP), the school has received an appreciable level of support every year in varied forms including but not limited to the renovation of the classroom and assembly hall.
Others are the renovation of staff common room blocks and the donation of stationery, play toys as well as mattresses, beddings and toiletries, planting of trees among others.
AWN representatives have also in several instances explored mentoring and coaching opportunities with the female pupils of the school.
As part of this year’s kind gesture, the bank also made a donation of food items and gifts to pupils and staff of the school.
AWN representatives also used the opportunity to organize a fun-filled Mothers’ Day competition for the pupils, in which six participants were selected to elaborate on the unique attributes that make their mothers special.
In all, three winners were voted as having the best stories of their mothers and were presented with prizes in the form of books, pencil sets, crayons, water colours, and school bags.
Access Bank marks “Mothers’ Day” every year to celebrate the enormous contribution of women and mothers acting in various lifestyle capacities across the globe, with a positive affirmation of the bank’s continuous commitment to support mothers and women at large on its specialized women banking initiative which has chalked tremendous successes over the past two years.
Through the Maternal Health Support Scheme (MHSS) and other upcoming innovations, the bank continues to make significant strides in promoting the advancement of women in Ghana.
