Accra, Ghana//-The CEO of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett has challenged CEOs in the country to be bold to enable them to take bold measures to address the challenges of their businesses.
Speaking at the eighth Ghana CEO Summit held in Accra today, Mr Blewett admonished them that although things are hard, they should continue to be strong to grow the businesses and the country as well.
While urging them to lead, he asked them as business leaders to work together with the government to deliver their objectives for the people.
“Collaboration in every endeavour is a key to the success of businesses in Ghana and other parts of the world. It is not to one party or single party, it is a collaborative effort”, Mr Blewett said.
Touching on the topic- ‘Harnessing the Power of Connectivity: Telecommunications as the Backbone of Economic Transformation’, he underscored the importance of telecommunications in driving economic growth and development in the country.
As telecom companies, we provide connectivity for the transmission of information over distances through electronic means to millions of people.
Besides providing connectivity for communication, we also provide connectivity for payments both within and outside the country, according to the CEO.
Mr Blewett added: “As MTN one of the biggest things that we pushed is that we were the first to lead financial inclusion, driving connectivity across the digital divide.
By allowing people to get access to financial products, that is something that we have done across the continent, and we are very product of that”.
Mr Blewett continued: “We have 65 million global customers across 16 markets and that also creates millions of jobs. For us, it is important to move just beyond a network player into a digital player. So, we have launched various products such as APIs which are part of our business. We also launched aYoba, a messaging app which allows Africans to communicate”.
Instructively, the Ghana CEO Summit is the foremost annual business leadership conference in Ghana which convenes CEOs from diverse sectors to explore innovative solutions for unlocking economic potential and driving transformative growth in the country.
