Mining Sector Awards Deepen Rivalry Among Key Players

RANDGOLD Resources, Kamoto Copper Company, Tenke Fungurume and MMG are just some of the leading names in mining that have been nominated for the inaugural DRC Mining Industry Awards which will be announced at the gala dinner ceremony during iPAD DRC Mining & Infrastructure Indaba on 22 October in Kinshasa.

“The response from the industry has been overwhelming and each and every category is hotly contested, from Mining Company of the Year to Best Social Investment, Lifetime Achievement and Environmental Management”, said iPAD DRC event director Nicole Smith. She explains: “we have received dozens and dozens of entries. And what is gratifying is that the nominated companies and individuals have all made such important contributions to the mining sector in the DRC over the last decade. The judges have a tough job choosing the final winners, I do not envy them”.

Honouring the leading lights in mining
This year’s tenth edition of the annual iPAD DRC Mining & Infrastructure Indaba sees the launch of the DRC Mining Industry Awardsduring the gala dinner on 22 October at Hotel Memling in Kinshasa. Nicole says the public was invited to take part in the nomination process “to celebrate the success and the loyalty of our event participants during the past 10 years, recognising excellence within the sector and honouring the leading lights in mining.”

Lindsey Domingo, Country Managing Partner, Ernst & Young DRC, is on the esteemed panel of judges for the awards: “I am both humbled and privileged to have the opportunity to be part of the judging panel for the DRC Mining Industry Awards.  I am really looking for distinctive contributions to the mining industry in DRC, those that have brought about a sustainable change and impact for all stakeholders involved.”
