I am puzzled, dismayed – Ken Ofori-Atta declares over OSP’s criminal probe against him

Ken Ofori Atta, former Minister of Finance

Ghana’s immediate past Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has expressed his dismay over the recent legal tussle with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), following allegations of financial misconduct.

In an open letter dated 26th February, Mr Ofori-Atta stated that he was “puzzled and dismayed” by the developments, adding that he felt compelled to clarify the situation to the public.

His comments come in the wake of an OSP-issued wanted notice against him, which was later rescinded.

The OSP had launched an investigation into Mr Ofori-Atta’s alleged involvement in multiple financial transactions, including the Strategic Mobilisation-GRA Contract, the termination of the ECG-BXC contract, payments related to the National Cathedral, the procurement of ambulances, and the utilisation of the Tax Refund Account.

These charges formed the basis for his inclusion on the OSP’s wanted list, a move that drew significant public attention and speculation.

However, in a fresh statement, the OSP announced that Mr Ofori-Atta had officially communicated his intended date of voluntary return to the jurisdiction.
