Accra, Ghana//-MTN Ghana today presented cash and assorted items to the National Chief Imam in Accra towards the celebration of this year’s Eidul Fitr.
The telecoms company supported this year’s Eidul Fitr celebration with cash and items worth over GH¢60,000.00.
Specifically, MTN Ghana as a partner of the National Chief Imam today supported him and the entire Muslim community, just as it has done over the past 15 years.
The items and cash are listed below:
- 25 Bags of Rice
- 15 Cartons of Vegetable Oil
- 40 Packs of Mineral Water
- 10 cartoons of canned drinks
- 20 packs of assorted soft drinks
- A big Ram
- GHc 20,000 cash
In addition to these, similar donations are being made for Regional Chief Imams in Ashanti, Western and Northern regions.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the residence of the National Chief Imam at New Fadama in Accra, Senior Manager for Customer Relations and Credit Management of MTN Ghana, Salihu Abu, said: “Our donations across the country go to affirm our appreciation for your support, patronage and loyalty to MTN.
We thank you once again for your continued support of our activities and for the warm reception we have enjoyed over the years”.
He noted that this year’s Ramadan hasn’t been the same as previous years.
Deepest condolence
“In the course of the Holy Month of Ramadan, we lost our mother, the beloved wife of the National Chief Imam.
On behalf of the Management and staff of MTN Ghana, we want to use this opportunity to express our deepest condolence to His Eminence the National Chief Imam for this loss. May Allah grant her the highest place in Jannah”.
Mr Abu also assured that during the 40th day of Adua, MTN would come to commiserate with His Eminence and the family.
In a few days, the Holy month of Ramadan will be coming to an end and Muslims in Ghana and around the world will be celebrating Eidul Fitr.
“We thank Allah for granting the Ummah a peaceful Ramadan.
In a day or two the Ummah will celebrate Eidul Fitr and our families and communities will come together to share and strengthen relationships”.
We will also use the opportunity to be charitable towards the less privileged and to learn to live in harmony with our neighbours because this is what Eidul Fitr is all about, he said.
In the spirit of Eidul Fitr, MTN Ghana is here to share and strengthen our relationship with His Eminence and the Ummah.
MTN setups
To provide distinct a customer experience during the celebration, MTN will set up stands at vantage points to provide customers with enhanced customer services whilst they celebrate.
Customers will be able to do their sim change and register for MoMo and we also leverage on platforms to educate customers on Mobile Money fraud, Mr Abu said.
MTN Bright Scholarship
“On the MTN Ghana Foundation front, we are currently receiving entries for the MTN Bright Scholarship.
The scholarship scheme aims to assist students in public tertiary and vocational institutions with their financial commitments whilst in school”.
The scholarship covers the cost of tuition, accommodation, a stipend, and a laptop.
The deadline for submission of the applications is 31st May 2023.
Eligible applicants may apply only through the web portal scholarship.mtn.com.gh. No hardcopy applications will be accepted.
Chief Imam praises for MTN
In a short speech, the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr Usumanu Nuhu Sharubutu thanked MTN Ghana for the continuous support and prayed for Allah’s abundant blessings for the company and its management and staff.
In his own words: “Your life in its entirety is blessed by God. May Allah not cause you to be tired of these gestures that you have undertaken. We are grateful to you. Whoever is not grateful to human beings can never be grateful to God”.
Sheikh Dr Sharubutu continued: “Allah has said that if you are grateful to me for my favours, I will increase the favours”.
For over 15 consistent years, MTN Ghana has supported the Chief Imam during Eidul Fitr celebrations by way of donations and organizing key events in Nima and Accra New Town, all to foster peaceful coexistence in the communities.
Similarly, the company has been supporting the National Hajj Board annually in the organization of the pilgrimage to Mecca.
Later, Imams and Elders of the Muslim community received the items on behalf National Chief Imam and the Muslim community.
