COP Patrick Timbillah is alleged to be operating two private accounts totaling about1 million Ghana cedis.
The Interior Minister revealed the news of the frozen accounts to Joy News following a Monday meeting with the Police Council.
Featuring prominently in the meeting was the case of the embattled Director-General of the Human Resource Department of the Police Service, COP Timbillah.
A special investigations team is looking into the recruitment scam in which 200 would-be police officers turned up at Police installations when no official recruitment was underway.
Timbillah whose signature was reportedly found on some fake acceptance letters has since Friday been interdicted.
A special investigation team has up to 20th March to present its report to the Police Council.
Resorting to a police inquiry has not gone down well with security expert Dr. Kwesi Anning who has a “strong” conviction that an independent committee can do a more “thorough” job.
The Minister did not dismiss the option of using an independent committee but said it is proper to give the ongoing investigation team a chance to conclude its work.
If “we are not satisfied with the [report], the [Police council] will take the next step”, Mark Woyongo said.
Woyongo said Timbillah has also been dispossessed of his gun.
