Accra, Ghana, April 12, 2019//-Youth Connect Ghana, a youth centred nongovernmental organization (NGO) in Ghana, has used its little resources to offer free ICT training for more than 500 youth across the country, since 2017.

The main aim of the ICT training is to help the youth to become competent and confident users who can use the basic knowledge and skills acquired to assist them in their daily lives, Co-founder of Youth Connect Ghana, Iddriss Ahmed told African Eye Report.

It is also supposed to prepare youth for the world of tomorrow and the job market”, he added.

Mr Ahmed who is a graduate of University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa campus, explained that; “one of our focus areas is ICT training and our training is both online and offline, and face-to-face” that makes easy for the youth to learn.

“We do our training on Whatsap and email and we use text, pictures and videos, to deliver our lessons. Assignments are given at the end of each topic. We sometimes use phone calls to address our trainees’ problems”, he emphasized.

Ongoing training

Currently, we are offering a free online ICT training for 180 people across Ghana. We mostly have students from Nigeria, Kenya, India and Gambia, Mr Ahmed said.

“We issue a certificate to participants at the end of the programme. The current training is a three weeks training but tomorrow will mark the end of the second week”.

Looking for sponsors

The Youth Connect Ghana co-founder said that the NGO was looking for sponsors and partners to enable them to expand the ICT training project to include more youth in the country.

In his own words: “We are now looking for sponsors and partners. Currently, we are financing it ourselves. So, our doors are open for help”.

When asked whether they contacted government for support, Mr Ahmed answered: “Not yet. We actually want to start doing something so that sponsors will know we are truly in to help”.

We want to use this out platform to impact lives and give back to society. And we are on course, Mr Ahmed assured.
