Togo Issues Residence Permits to 23 Congolese Refugees

Lomé, Togo, January 16, 2020-The ministers of social action and civil protection have given this Thursday, January 16, 2020 in Lome, residence permits to 23 Congolese refugees.

This action is a first step in a process that began in the award of Togolese nationality by naturalization for refugees.

The ceremony of these preferred residence permits to the 23 Congolese took place in the presence of Yark Damehame Ministers of Civil Protection and Tchabinandi Kolani-Yentcharé Social Action.

These Congolese refugees have freely decided to settle in Togo. Apart from the cards they have received guidance checks hands of the Togolese authorities.

In handing residence cards and socioeconomic packets to these residents, both Ministers noted that the Togolese share daily with 11,935 refugees from 18 nationalities. 46 of them would be repatriated while 1084 wishing to obtain a residence permit, 245 Togolese nationality by naturalization and 791 have no choice of sustainable solutions.

We thank the Congolese authorities in collaboration whose purpose is done today. We appeal to other states whose nationals are refugees in Togo for future collaboration to facilitate the establishment of identity and travel, “stressed the ministers Yark Damehane security and Tchabinandi Yentcharé-Kolani of Social Action.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Jean Claude Ngando Ndjoli, thanked the authorities for this gesture, for now, the cardholders have autonomy and the document offers them more opportunities.

Note that the length of the privileged residence card is 10 years. The possession of this document loses refugee title. The holder is a wholly-resident.
