African CEOs

Johannesburg, South Africa, 14 May, 2020 -/African Media Agency (AMA)/- Brand Africa announced that it will unveil the Brand Africa 100: Africa’s Best Brands – the only continent-wide ranking of the continent’s 100 most admired brands in Africa, at a global virtual event on Africa Day, Monday 25 May.

2020 Brand Africa 100: Africa’s Best Brands

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Brand Africa 100. Established 10 years ago to coincide with the Fifa World Cup, the world’s biggest single sporting event, the Brand Africa 100: Africa’s Best Brands rankings have established themselves as the most authoritative survey and analysis of brands and businesses in Africa, based on a study by Geopoll across 27 countries spanning all the five economic regions.

Collectively these countries account for over 80% of the population and over 80% of the GDP of Africa. An analysis of the data by Kantar and Brand Leadership over the past 10 years has established that on average, only 20% of the brands admired by Africans are made in Africa. What will this year’s results tell us about the strength and resilience of African brands?

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on African bourses, brands and businesses

Due to lockdowns, this year’s launch will take place through a global virtual event. One of the highlights includes a panel with the CEOs of three of Africa’s largest exchanges: Geoffrey Odundo – CEO, Nairobi Stock Exchange (Kenya), Dr. Leila Fourie – CEO, JSE (South Africa) and Oscar Onyema – CEO, Nigeria Stock Exchange.

A second panel will include the Chief Marketing and Communication Officers Mzamo Masito – CMO, Google Africa, Sylvia Mulinge – Chief Customer Officer, Safaricom and Anthony Chiejina – Group Chief Brand and Corporate Communications Officer, Dangote Group and Robyn de Villiers, Chairman and CEO, BCW Africa.

They will hear first hand on the challenges businesses face and how they are mitigating against any adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and how they’ll be adjusting to the next normal, given the significant disruption to global supply chains, market volatility and a severe global economic downturn.

The panels will be facilitated by Omar Ben Yedder – Publisher/CEO, African Business magazine and Ms. Eloine Barry – CEO, African Media Agency, NYC.

African Markets Opening

In a novel programme line-up, the launch will feature a world-first synchronized opening of the three major African securities exchanges of Kenya (09h00 EAT), South Africa (09h00 CAT) and Nigeria (09h30 GMT+1) all within the Brand Africa virtual program on 25 May 2020.

Participants

The event is expected to attract a global audience of thought leaders, decision makers and the media focused on building, investing in and/or influencing businesses and brands in Africa.

The rankings will once again be published as the cover feature of African Business which will be on sale globally in June and released digitally on Africa Day.

The event is organized by IC Events, Brand Leadership and Africa Practice, supported by Africa Media Agency and BCW in communication and Africa Brand Leadership Academy and Henley Business School as academic partners.
